Playing with Cupcakes... :))

Cupcakes out of high-ratio cakes were made and iced with Simple and European Buttercreams. Their outcomes were compared and effects of color adding in them were studied. It was fun playing around with different color combinations and making buttercream flowers.

This week was all about cake making and assembly. We made both modern and classic gateaux and tortes. It was the most exciting week for me!

Banana-Buttercrunch Cake

This is my first attempt towards modern desserts. The fun flavor of banana and chocolate with hint of rum and smooth oozing Sabayon. The hot dessert is cooled with vanilla ice cream and lent sweet crunch with a brulee and sour raspberries.

I assisted my school's lecturer in making this cake. It was really fun and a great experience working with Connie Ruel.

'Farm to Table' Day

This day was about utilizing locally grown ingredients and design plated dessert with a side, dessert sauce and garnish. Working in team was great and I got to learn lot about team work.

Tres-Leches

This one is a recipe I learned at the bakery I am interning at. I modified the recipe to replace the eggs though. Its a Tres-Leches cake, a classic combining three kinds of milk along with a layer of finely chopped fruits and some rum for that additional kick! ;) :)

Kunal, from California, a friend of ours was going to visit us on memorial day weekend. Wanted to make something special for him. This is what I came up with. Its a hazelnut chocolate cake, which my textbook calls Alhambra. Classic combination of roasted crushed hazelnuts and chocolate-ganache filling. My friend is gonna love it! :))

My luv's birthday!!

It was my husband's birthday on May 8th.... and I wanted to do something special for him. He absolutely adores Molten Lava Cakes and is probably the only person who places delivery order at Dominos for just the cakes.. lol!! :) :) These are supposed to be simple and quick but unfortunately my last two attempts were unsuccessful but i was pretty determined and as you can see these came out perfect!! Hurray!! :))

Bon Voyage!

Today was full of mixed emotions, my friends Timsy and Evan Apel,  were moving to Seattle. They were my first friends here and we had spent several memorable dinner evenings... Full of crazy games, delicious food, and not so great movies :D Today was going to be our last dinner together in Boulder :(
          Wanted to make something special for them....my favorite cake back in India was Black Forest Cake and with fresh cherries back in season here ...I thought  dark chocolate and cherry filled Black Forest Cake would be the perfect farewell for the most special friends. The cake came out perfect and everyone loved it but that was still not enough to overcome the emptiness I was feeling inside. :'(
